Advice / Videos

Please see below for expert hints on keeping your equipment in good condition.

User guide - download the User guide for detailed information regarding your mask.

Sizing the Frame:

Step 1 - in general, men should select the Standard frame size and women should select the Small frame size. These are general recommendations that can be disregarded if you feel that you have a smaller/larger face than average.

Step 2 - the frame should sit on the top of the head, like a headband. If the frame is too small, it will feel tight and sit too close to your forehead. If the frame is too large, it will feel loose and sit too far back on your head.

Sizing the Cushion:

Step 1 - print the Sizing Template, ensuring it is printed to scale.

Step 2 - place the template below your nose, perpendicular to your face. If you have a narrow nose, start with the blue/red side of the template. If you have a wide nose, start with the black/purple side of the template.

Step 3 - look into a mirror and assess whether your nose falls inside or outside the margins on the template. If you are between two sizes, choose the larger one.

Step 4 - if your nose is size S (red) or M (blue), select the appropriate cushion from your starter pack. If your nose is SW (purple) or W (black) then you will need to order the cushion as a spare part.

If you don't want to use the sizing template, refer to our sizing guidelines in the table below. Use a straight ruler to measure the width of your nose.

Cushion size (AirFit N30i) Nose width - fit range (mm)
Small up to 36mm
Medium 36-46.5mm
Small Wide 46.5-49mm
Wide 49-60mm

Good in theory

I've been using the N30i with the Air Sense 10 on most nights, for 8 months now. That I believe is a more than adequate time span for assessment. Prior to the N30i I had been using the N20, which I had been more than happy with. It was due for replacement though, and along came the N30i. The first few nights, I was waking up several times a night to adjust the cradle cushion, because it had slipped on my nose, causing the opening to be blocked, making breathing through my nose a bit laboured. I put this down to teething problems and persevered. I adjusted the straps more than a few times, making the mask tighter, to try and prevent the nasal cradle from slipping. This kind of worked, but the mask was now uncomfortable, due to its being almost clamped to my face. This rather defeated the object of self adjusting spring fit frame, and highlighted the need for additional points of adjustment. The spring fit frame is one size fits all, and doubles as the head harness. Unfortunately it doesn't stay in place all night, as stated in the description, and is non adjustable. The only way I can think of making this adjustable, is to cut an equal length of frame from either side of the nasal cradle. In its current configuration this is not possible. The top of the head tube design is a big selling point. This is what sets it apart from other masks. The lack of elbow and protruding mask enables side sleeping to be achieved more easily. The quick release elbow works well. However, the silicone spring fit frame is very soft and flexible. If the tube is trapped when the head is moved, the whole assembly pulls away very easily. The Air Sense 10 then stops automatically, and therapy comes to an abrupt halt. This in turn makes the sleep report for that night inaccurate. I also have an Air Mini which I use when travelling. I have been using the Air Mini periodically, including for the last 5 nights in a camper van. I wore the N20 which came supplied with the Air Mini. I had five nights of good and uninterrupted sleep. For me personally then the N20 is a far superior mask, in every way.
