Contraindication

Masks with magnetic components are contraindicated for use by patients where they, or anyone in close physical contact while using the mask, have the following:

  1. Active medical implants that interact with magnets (i.e., pacemakers, implantable cardioverter defibrillators (ICD), neurostimulators, cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) shunts, insulin/infusion pumps)
  2. Metallic implants/objects containing ferromagnetic material (i.e., aneurysm clips/flow disruption devices, embolic coils, stents, valves, electrodes, implants to restore hearing or balance with implanted magnets, ocular implants, metallic splinters in the eye)

Warning

Keep the mask magnets at a safe distance of at least 6 inches (150 mm) away from implants or medical devices that may be adversely affected by magnetic interference. This warning applies to you or anyone in close physical contact with your mask. The magnets are in the frame and lower headgear clips, with a magnetic field strength of up to 400mT. When worn, they connect to secure the mask but may inadvertently detach while asleep.

Implants/medical devices, including those listed within contraindications, may be adversely affected if they change function under external magnetic fields or contain ferromagnetic materials that attract/repel to magnetic fields (some metallic implants, e.g., contact lenses with metal, dental implants, metallic cranial plates, screws, burr hole covers, and bone substitute devices). Consult your physician and manufacturer of your implant / other medical device for information on the potential adverse effects of magnetic fields.

FAQ

The AirFit F40 is ResMed’s smallest Minimalist full face mask1. It’s designed to overcome common barriers to sleep apnoea therapy – such as concerns about discomfort and claustrophobia or self-consciousness about appearance – as well as preconceptions that full face masks are heavy or bulky. As it all seals under the nose (as opposed to a traditional over-the-nose design) it’s a good choice for people who wear glasses and like to read in bed. The AdaptiSeal cushion, designed to shape itself to various facial contours, is also a good option for side sleepers and those who like to change positions during the night, due to its softness and flexibility.
No, all AirFit F40 components are specifically designed for the AirFit F40 only.
No. The AirFit F40 is not compatible with the AirMini. Please refer to the mask-device compatibility list for more details on devices that are compatible with AirFit F40.
No. Please refer to ResMed’s mask/device compatibility list, which will specify which ResMed PAP devices are compatible with the AirFit F40 mask system.
Please use the fitting template available in the mask system pack and refer to the user guide and fitting video for complete instructions on how to size the AirFit F40 cushion and headgear.
Please watch the video with step-by-step instructions on when and how to clean your mask. The instructions are also detailed in your user guide.
It’s important to take care of your CPAP equipment and check it regularly, especially the cushion and other parts that touch your face. Poorly cleaned CPAP masks can cause discomfort and skin irritation and make therapy less effective. If there is any visible deterioration of a mask component (cracking, crazing, tears etc) the component should be discarded and replaced. The user guide for your mask also provides information on replacement.
Magnetic clips are designed to be a convenient way of fitting your mask easily and quickly, as they guide the headgear into the frame in seconds. Magnetic clips can be used by most people, but there are some contraindications to be aware of. Please refer to the user guide for complete information, including magnet contraindications and warning.
No. If you need a non-magnetic full face mask, we recommend the AirFit F20 non magnetic mask.
